Visit one of the oldest towns in Jamaica, established sometime around 1671 the town of Black River was designated the capital of the parish of St. Elizabeth in 1773, when it replaced the Lacovia and characterized a Protected National Heritage site since on April 8, 1999.

Situated at the mouth of the Black River, where it flows into the sea it’s the first town in Jamaica to be lit by electricity since 1893, the first to have motor cars in 1903 and the telephone 10 years after it was invented.
